Do You Get It?

Are you really a Top 10?

I am constantly amazed at the high quality of individuals I meet at rep functions. It is obvious that the highest 10% — the cream of the crop — understand the need for continual education.

They also understand that their education comes in two forms:

  1. Networking with other high-caliber reps.
  2. Increasing their knowledge on a wide variety of pertinent topics.

It is interesting to note that I see the same approximate faces of reps at these functions. Behavioral scientists refer to them as conscious competents. Or said another way, they are: Reps who know what it takes to continually improve. The pedigree of these reps is amazing. Their knowledge, success, and willingness to help others cannot be found anywhere else. Their thirst to learn from the topic presented is intense.

I am also amazed at the many other reps I come into contact with that have an excuse NOT to attend a function. Here are a few of the standard excuses:

  • I am too busy.
  • I can’t afford to.
  • I do not see any value in it.

Behavioral scientists refer to these people as either:

  • Unconscious Competents

Reps who do not know what it takes to continually improve, but have a successful business and are complacent with being where they are.

  • Unconscious Incompetents

Reps who do not know what it takes to continually improve, and have no idea they have so much more room to improve and grow.

From my observations, I would place (fortunately) most “excuse-laden” MANA members in the unconscious competent category — as most appear to “get it.” However, are they a Top 10? If they only consciously realized what they are missing!

The bottom line: It has been stated many times — “Knowledge is Power.” I look forward to seeing the powerful reps at MANAfest! Are you a conscious competent rep? If so, please come join the rest of us Top 10 at this amazing conference!
